Want to build your career as a wedding planner
A decade ago, movies like ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ and ‘The Wedding Planner’ introduced the idea of a career in wedding planning to a generation of youth. The films did spark an interest in this vocation but they were far from being a beginner’s guide into the industry. An artistic glamorization of the process that leads to the grand finale – the wedding, all the work behind the scenes were left, well behind the scenes. So the question remains – how would you learn about the complex, intricate, intuitive work that is wedding planning?
Mareesha Parikh, Director Swaaha WMC ( Wedding Planning & Management co.) along with her partner founded The Wedding School. The masterminds insist on a personalized approach in every aspect of the training.
A Mumbai based institute, The Wedding School has been established to induct creative minds into this industry through their certified Diplomas in Wedding Planning & Management. Through their courses like the Diploma Course – India, students are exposed to the aspects of orchestrating a dreamy wedding. The institute also plans a Specialised Diploma in Mentoring which will not only train start up’s but guide them through setting up their own venture in a structured manner.
“We came up with this concept because we wanted students to get a sense of being in a real wedding planner’s office. Through our courses, we create an environment that allows them to go crazy with their imagination, come up with ideas and learn to work as a team,” says co-founder and CEO, Mareesha Parikh. The course also offers on the ground experience, she elaborates, “Special weekend sessions and exclusive workshops give students hands-on experience at various live events. At the end of the program, students can even avail of an internship following which they will be ready to ace the wedding management game.” The internship is a real test of their abilities which puts the students theoretical knowledge into practical use. This gives them deep insights into the workings of the wedding industry. During the internship they are even absorbed by leading wedding planners which boosts their career even further.
The school uses a distinctive approach that helps students of event management delve deep into the nuances of managing a wedding, specifically. “As the name suggests, our focus is completely on all things to do with weddings,” says Mareesha.
The school’s extensive curriculum includes wedding invitations & gifting, hospitality and logistics, décor and designing, production and technicals to entertainment, client servicing and team management, vendors and partner management, budgeting and costing, and so much more. “Wedding planning requires specialization because it’s not just about getting the event right, but getting the emotions right. It’s about dealing with family members as well as the dreams of the bride and groom. To understand that and deliver it in a span of four to five months is far more challenging,” she explains.
TWS is focused on educating and helping young aspiring individuals who are keen on exploring the different facets of this field and want to excel at them. They take their students by the hand and prepare them to leverage all the opportunities that come their way. The institute believes in an interactive approach where counselling and a streamlined curriculum help you to achieve your goal.
